The cross between a Dun Dark Brown stallion, whose coat the Dun gene acts on the base color, adding the characteristic dark dorsal stripe. In some cases it lightens the body tone and may also produce zebra-like leg markings. Dark brown coat, often nearly black, with black points, expressed over the bay base., and a Smoky Cream mare with coat very pale coat with yellowish highlights, resulting from double dilution of the cream gene over the black base., can produce 6 different coat colors: Dun Buckskin (30%), Buckskin (30%), Dun Smoky Black (14%), Smoky Black (14%), Dun Palomino (6%) and Palomino (6%).
